:: Following the document : Toward an integrated study of knowledge artifacts ::

I've posted a new paper over in the "papers" section. Here's the abstract:

Recent commentary on knowledge management has discussed the importance of “knowledge artifacts”. But what is a knowledge artifact? This paper reviews the problems inherent in identifying knowledge artifacts and provides a description of various constructs for articulating and describing them. I discuss knowledge artifacts as material, tool, artifact, marking, inscription, document, boundary object, and genre. The paper continues with some discussion of a methodological approach for studying information behaviour based on “following the document” (or knowledge artifact).
